The Computer Science Department of the University of Chile is offering two full-time permanent positions to carry out research and teaching, both undergraduate and graduate, starting on March 1, 2019 at the latest. The call covers areas such as Software engineering, Security and privacy, and Artificial intelligence, among others.

-= The Positions =-

The Department of Computer Science (DCC) is offering two full-time permanent positions to carry out research and teaching, both undergraduate and graduate, starting on March 1, 2019 at the latest. As assistant professors in tenure-track positions, the candidates are expected to develop a strong and competitive research program.

-= The Candidates=-
Candidates should be pursuing internationally recognized research in one of these research areas:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Software engineering
  • Security and privacy
  • Computer systems organization and networks
  • Applied computing (physical sciences and engineering, or life and medical sciences)
  • Human-centered computing

The successful candidates are expected to complement existing strengths of the Department activities. The candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree or be Ph.D. students who will obtain their degrees before starting the appointment. The candidates must have demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship within the field of interest.

Successful candidates will be expected to:

- move to Santiago, Chile
- establish and lead their own research team
- deliver innovative research at the highest international standard
- deliver high quality teaching
- supervise undergraduate, master and PhD students
- obtain competitive research funding from external funding bodies
- write and speak English fluently
- obtain a good command of Spanish within 1 year of appointment

-= The Department of Computer Science (DCC) =-
The DCC is the leading Computer Science Department in Chile, and one of the most active in Latin America. It pioneered the use of Unix and the adoption of the Internet in Chile. Today, it has 21 full-time professors, 8 of which came from Argentina, Uruguay, France, and Ireland. They carry out research at the highest level, publishing over 100 articles per year in international conferences and journals. The Department is responsible for teaching Computer Science, with about 200 undergraduates majoring Computer Science, 50 MSc and 40 PhD students.

-= Salary =-
Salary, paid in Chilean pesos, is about US$48,000 per year, after taxes, health insurance, and pension fund contribution, at the assistant professor level. Note that this amount does not include additional benefits based on scientific productivity and awarded research projects.

The DCC is located in Santiago de Chile. Santiago is the capital and largest city in Chile, with a lively cultural scene and delectable cuisine.
