Royal Holloway is investing in Computer Science and wishes to establish a major research presence in Software Engineering, Distributed Systems, or an area closely related to either. We shall appoint to this post a researcher with a proven or promising research record in one of these fields. In the framework of this initiative, posts of Professor and of Reader/Senior Lecturer in these fields are also currently advertised.

The department offers a dynamic research and teaching environment with existing groups in machine learning, algorithmics, type theory, constraint satisfaction, agent based systems, and software language engineering. In RAE 2008, we were placed in the upper third of computing departments. The College was ranked 107th in the Times HE World Rankings 2011 and is situated in a beautiful campus in Egham, Surrey, next to Windsor Great Park. It is both close to Central London and 10 minutes by taxi from Heathrow Airport.

Departmental priorities are to enhance and diversify the research portfolio and develop new postgraduate taught courses. The appointee will also be expected to make a contribution across the full range of departmental activities. In particular, duties and responsibilities of this post include: conducting individual and collaborative research projects; producing high quality research outputs for publication in high profile journals and conference proceedings; contributing to the department’s REF submission to a satisfactory level; delivering high quality teaching to all levels of students.

The successful candidate will be expected to have PhD or equivalent completed or near to completion, in relevant field. Essential are experience of high quality teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in Computer Science and a successful track record of supervising postgraduate students. You will be developing record of good outputs in international journals or conference proceedings, with demonstrable high quality research potential and a clear strategy for future research. You will have excellent communication and presentation skills, with the proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, colleagues, and external audiences.
