Call for papers DataMod 23-24 November 2026 Malta at SEFM
DataMod 2026 is a satellite symposium of SEFM 2026 focused on the interplay between computational modeling and data-driven techniques for complex systems. It will be held in Valletta, Malta, on 23–24 November 2026. The workshop has three tracks: a Main Track, a Biomedical analysis and models sub-track, and a Federated Learning sub-track.

DataMod 2026 (https://datamod-symposium.github.io/DataMod-2026) aims at bringing together practitioners and researchers from academia, industry and research institutions interested in the interaction between computational modelling methods and data-driven techniques, including knowledge management, data mining, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

The symposium focuses on how data can support the construction, refinement, validation and adaptation of models, and how models can help analyse, simulate, verify and understand complex systems. Modelling methodologies of interest include, among others, automata, agents, Petri nets, process calculi, differential equations, natural computing and rewriting systems. Application domains include biology, medicine, software engineering, cybersecurity, business process management, education, climate change, smart cities, sustainability, governance, social systems and any other field that deals with complex systems and large amounts of data.

The 2026 edition is organized into three tracks. The Main Track covers the general scope of DataMod, from discovering models from data to model-based analysis, simulation, verification, and optimization. Two focused sub-tracks highlight contributions to Biomedical analysis and models and to Federated Learning.

Papers can present research results on any of the symposium's themes of interest, as well as application experiences, tools, and promising preliminary ideas. Papers dealing with synergistic approaches that integrate modelling and knowledge management/discovery, or that exploit knowledge management/discovery to develop, refine, validate or synthesise system models are especially welcome.

Authors are invited to submit original research, tools, or position papers on any relevant topic. These can be either regular or short papers. Short papers can discuss new ideas that are in their early stages of development and have not yet been thoroughly evaluated. Presentation reports are also welcome for recent or ongoing work on relevant topics and ideas, for timely discussion and feedback at the symposium.

TRACKS AND TOPICS

Main Track: From Data to Models and Back For contributions addressing the general scope of DataMod, including both data-to-model discovery and model-based analysis and simulation: learning, extracting or synthesizing models from data, as well as using models to analyze, verify, or optimize complex systems.

Sub-Track 1: Biomedical analysis and models

The Biomedical analysis and models sub-track welcomes contributions at the intersection of computational modeling and data-driven analysis in the biomedical domain.

Sub-Track 2: Federated Learning 

The Federated Learning sub-track welcomes contributions on methods, tools and case studies for learning from distributed data while preserving privacy and supporting model-based analysis.

SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION

Papers can take one of the following three types: 

  • Regular research, tool or position paper, up to 16 pages, excluding references
  • Short research, tool or position paper, up to 8 pages, excluding references
  • Presentation report, up to 4 pages, excluding references Presentation reports concern recent or ongoing work on relevant topics and ideas, for timely discussion and feedback at the symposium. There is no restriction as to previous or future publication of the contents of a presentation. Typically, a presentation is based on a paper that has recently appeared, or is going to appear, in the proceedings of another recognized conference, or which has not yet been submitted. Presentation reports will receive a lightweight review to establish their relevance for DataMod.

All regular and short submissions must be original, unpublished, and not submitted concurrently for publication elsewhere. Authors are invited to submit regular and short papers via EasyChair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=datamod2026 

Contributions must be formatted according to the guidelines for Springer LNCS papers, without modifications of margins or other space-saving measures. Authors should therefore consult Springer's author instructions and use the proceedings templates, either in LaTeX or in Word, to prepare their papers.

Springer’s proceedings LaTeX templates are also available in Overleaf. Springer encourages authors to include their ORCIDs in their papers. Each paper will be reviewed by three Program Committee members. Notification and reviews will be communicated via email through the EasyChair platform. Accepted papers will be included in the symposium program and will appear in the symposium pre-proceedings. Pre-proceedings will be available online before the symposium.

The condition for inclusion in the pre-proceedings is that at least one co-author has registered for the symposium. Revised versions of accepted papers will be published after the symposium in a dedicated LNCS post-proceedings volume published by Springer.
