Postdoc position in programming software-defined networks @ Université catholique de Louvain
We are starting a new project to enable the next-generation of software-defined network services in IXPs. We are looking for motivated candidates to fill a postdoctoral researcher position.

We are looking for motivated applicants interested in working in the context of ENDEAVOUR, a new project just awarded by the European Commission under the H2020 framework to UCL and the project partners (QMUL, DE-CIX, U. of Cambridge, IBM Research, and INRIA).
ENDEAVOUR will enable the next-generation of programmatic network services in interdomain networks, such as Internet eXchange Points (IXPs). The project builds upon recent technological trends to simplify network management and make networks more flexible and robust, namely Software-Defined Networking (SDN). So far, SDN has mostly been considered in intradomain settings. Bringing SDN to the interdomain settings would generate much more impact, both for network operators as well as for networked applications, e.g., those deployed in the Cloud. ENDEAVOUR will provide validation of novel SDN-enabled services applied to the environment of DE-CIX, one of the world's largest IXPs.
The research will focus on creating novel techniques, tools and systems to overcome the significant barriers to SDN adoption in large interdomain environments, including scalability, reliability, and distributed management. Candidates should be motivated to work at the intersection of networking, distributed systems and programming languages.
To apply, you will need to have a strong computing or engineering background, experience in building and working with large software systems and tools, and proven knowledge in at least one of the following areas:
* networking
* distributed systems
* programming languages
You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in an area pertinent to the subject area, i.e. Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
You will have excellent communication skills and be able to organize your own work with minimal supervision and prioritize work to meet deadlines. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven research record and publications in the relevant areas. All applicants must be fluent in spoken and written English.
The earliest start date is Jan 2015. The initial appointment will be for 1 year, renewable for up to 3 years.
We evaluate candidates on an ongoing basis, until the position is filled, so please submit the materials as soon as they are available.
